Being Indian…
Nevertheless, I realized the Indian spinal cord – that makes people adapt to any condition in any country. That’s “Being liquid”. Pour me anywhere, I will fill right in no matter what the shape of the vessel is. People from other countries wonder how Indians live in a country with so much population and corruption. Because we are liquid! If we were solid and rigid, India would have become like some parts of Africa ruled by mafias and warlords. As one of the rarest, quiet, and nice autorickshaw drivers once told me in Bhubaneshwar Orissa, “Sab khaaney ka chakkar hai saab” (it’s all a play for one-course meal). Some pictures of “Being Indian” – captured in a normal, everyday life all around the country. India has problems. Nevertheless, we are liquid and resilient!
Pathankot, Punjab – I thought only buses had footboards
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan – That’s why Indian women are hardworking and intelligent
Saranath, Uttar Pradesh – that’s a Garnier Fructis shampoo bottle-cum-cycle bell in his hand – Indians don’t recycle? Are you kidding? We do more than that – we don’t even throw anything away!
Jodhpur, Rajasthan – I see a mixture of wisdom, pain and peace in his eyes
Ujjain – Madhya Pradesh – that vehicle is a “remodeled” Royal Enfield
Dwarka, Gujarat – they said, “The boat has a capacity of 200 people” – boat was… err… a little smaller
Udupi, Karnataka – someone misunderstood, “Drinking water will be freely available”
Bangalore, Karnataka –sleeping peacefully
Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh – people play cricket anywhere and everywhere
